A high-strength, low-alloy steel plate utilized primarily in structural applications such as bridges and buildings. This grade A588 is designed for projects requiring atmospheric corrosion resistance. Its advantage over A572 50 is its weathering ability. When properly exposed to the atmosphere, this A588 steel plate can be utilized in its bare condition (unpainted). We stock this material as A588 Gr A & B in plate and 606 in sheet.

ASTM A588 covers high-strength low-alloy structural steel shapes, plates, and bars for welded, riveted, or bolted construction but intended primarily for use in welded bridges and buildings where savings in weight or added durability are important. The atmospheric corrosion resistance of this steel in most environments is substantially better than that of carbon structural steels with or without copper addition.
